Dr.Vasishth’s Gojihva Tablet

Gojihva is a small (1 1⁄2 ft), hairy plant with purple flowers. It grows from Kashmir to Kumaon at 11,500 ft. It is widely used for lowering the raised temperature in fever, palpitation, and urinary disorders. Its active constituents are – plenty of mucilaginous substances, Sodium, Potassium, Calcium, Magnesium, and Iron. Its leaves, flowers (aerial parts), and roots are used for medicinal purposes.

ACTIONS & USES:

Gojihva has the following major pharmacological actions and therapeutic uses –

  1. Pain & Fever: Gojihva is a potent analgesic (pain-killer) and antipyretic (lowers raised temperature). It relieves pain both through central and peripheral analgesic activity. It is useful in the management of painful and febrile diseases, including – various bacterial and viral infections, arthritis, toothache, backache, generalised body ache, and headaches.
  2. Inflammatory diseases: Gojihva has been seen to alleviate inflammation by inhibiting inflammatory mediators. It is thus useful in managing inflammatory disorders, including – arthritis, dermatitis, tonsillitis, sinusitis, bronchitis, bronchial asthma, etc.
  3. Anxiety & Depression: Gojihva is a potent anxiolytic and anti-depressant. It relieves anxiety and stress and strengthens the depressed mind. It is thus useful in the management of anxiety, stress, and mental depression, and the associated symptoms, especially palpitation.
  4. Bacterial infections: Gojihva has been seen to possess anti-bacterial activity. It is quite useful in the management of bacterial infections, especially, respiratory, skin, urinary, and upper respiratory infections.
  5. Cancer: Gojihva has been seen to possess cytotoxic activity against cancer cells. It can be used as a supportive drug in the management of cancer.
  6. Palpitation & Tachycardia: Gojihva reduces raised heart rate and forceful heartbeats. It is thus quite useful in the management of palpitation, tachycardia, and arrhythmias.

HOW TO USE?

Gojihva could be used as-

  • Gojihva ghan tablet 600 mg (= 3 gm Gojihva leaf powder) – Start 1-2 tablets, 3-6 times a day, depending upon the severity of the disease and the body weight of the patient. On improvement taper the dose and bring it to the minimum dose required. To be taken just after meals with plain water.

PRECAUTIONS:

Nothing specific. Largely safe for long-term use.
